Lisa + Jeff's SDE
Lisa and Jeff got married on 31st of January. What a crazy day!
Having our full team of 3 cinematographers shooting that day, allowed us to push the envelope and try new things:
- About a third of the clip was shot with the new 5D Mark II. All the footage from it was first converted to 24p. We combined it with EOS 70-200 f2.8 and Cinevate Pegasus "slider" (technically not a slider) with custom made 5' long rails.
- We only had 8 hours from the time we started editing till show time! Yet, as a team of 3 we managed to create our longest SDE ever. At close to 6 min, we still managed to have the piece heavily sequenced via time shifting, added emotional voiceovers, as well as having it fully color graded.
Some Interesting Challenges:
- Being that it is winter in Canada and hence extremely cold, when I put the steadicam on, one of the arm springs snapped off. However, as always we brought another steadicam as a backup, which certainly added to our coverage of the photosession.
- Another challenge we had was a ceremony site. An intimate, smaller location like Graydon Hall Manor's ceremony room, required a different shooting approach. You'll notice that there was no room on the sides, thus limiting us to our shooting positions to the main isle and the balcony.
Overall, our objective was to build a story cohesively and allow the audience to get to know the couple well before the most significant events happened.

You are really really my idols!
And...what the profesional impressions ´bout make movies with a photocamera?! The body camera doesn´t help so much, does it?
Oh, and I hope the steadicam was under warranty! That's a bummer.
the 5D was a huge help for this clip. check out the tight of their first meeting- that was all 5d footage converted to 24p on the fly. it looks super clean compared to the other cams.
david,
shot in part by the 5d, not entirely though. we had three of us there for a premium SDE.
James,
i think it was you who broke the flyer. in fact, i believe we have video proof of you in it right before this happened :)
P.
How did you convert the footage to 24p?
Nice as always. Seems like the 5D2 holds up for web cinema... but what about on a big 50" TV. That's what I want to see! :)
Seems like a little more play with things out of focus in this SDE. Maybe it's just me.
Nice length though.. is this a new trend? And way to push through the hectic tragedy of steadicam's breaking!

Singapore.
I'm not gonna ramble on, cuz I'll just end up saying what everyone else above has been saying. But I will tell you my favorite shot.
4:27-4:31 Slider shot, of the bride walking in. You know I fell in love with the slider during the workshop, but that shot alone just kicked that product into high gear, and also high up on my 'omg I need to get that!'.
Having the 3 cinematographers TOTALLY shows with all the various shots, which made this SDE just wicked. Bravo!
It is cool to see you guys use the 5D MkII. I am looking forward to reading your comments on the camera as a video tool.

Thanks for all the inspirational stuff boys. Keep up the fanatastic work.
Also - this is shot with XHA1S right? If you had XHA1 before ... how does the picture compare. Is it the same?
SO BEAUTIFUL !!!!
