The Staves: Mexico
An all in camera animation affair - or is it???
Yes it is. We animated vignettes and sequences to capture The Staves beautifully melancholic song 'Mexico'. The animation was a mixture of cut out and hand painted sequences brought to life in After Effects. We then used the skills of our projectionist Jack Banks to manipulate the images around the performance by the excellent Staveley sisters. It was a rather tight budget so we animated it ourselves over a rather intense few weeks. Thanks to all who helped us on this.

We used a Panasonic 6K projector, a beefy piece of kit, running Catalyst software through a laptop. The animation was planned and animated in 2D, tested with a 3D mock up in After Effects, then projected and remapped onto the trunk/floor from a high angle- you can manipulate the corner pinning in Catalyst so that it sits correctly on the surfaces. Glad you liked it!
