Greenhouse Effect perform "Ben is Dead" live in Manhattan Beach California on February 2, 1992,...one of G.e's final ever gigs. BEN IS DEAD comes from the 1991 "Going Legit" cd which was recorded by Clark Hagins and Rick Carmody from November 1990 through February 1991 at Jet City Sound and Accessive Light and Sound (Als) Studios in El Segundo and Lomita California respectively.
On the album 'Going Legit', Clark hagins and Carmody first laid down raw bass and drums tracks with Andrew Houston for the songs "Dead end street', BEN IS DEAD, Hey Negrita, 22nd Street, God's joke, Star,,..as money was tight and time was very short,..a few days later, Hagins came back to the studio and put down various wrythm and lead guitar parts, guitar effects with Houston, and ofcourse the lead vocal parts,...these 6 songs were 'completed' in about 3 quick sessions for under 150 dollars,...on Akai 12 track recording equipment,...(of note; 2 other songs were recorded at Jet City Sound with Bill Krodel and those two were; America the Beautiful and "Wilson Phillips",..they achieved better sound quality,...respectively),...but it was a little bit more expensive to record with Krodel in El Segundo,...
The "Going Legit" cassette would go on sale at all South Bay Record stores to successful sales,...virtually ALL copies were sold as G.e. played the Wilson Park 'Fest tours' with drummer Greg Tarpley. At this Manhattan Beach show, the drummer is Martin Silva ,..who long played off and on with G.e. through out early 1991 and into 1992,..."Going Legit' was later made into a cd - in all black and white 'punk rock styled' artwork - Golden arches humor intact complete,...all 100 copies were sold out and today it is out of print,....
THE DRUMMING OF MARTY SILVA would be key to the live success of G.e. as he propelled tracks like "Star" and "Ben is dead" to become storming hard punk rock 'anthems' live to stunned crowds,....Greenhouse effect would become one of Los Angeles California's most successful three piece bands as they put on a tight show of hits night after night driven by the lead guitar of Clark Hagins and the resounding 'bass lines' of sought after South Bay bassist Rick Carmody who later played with Redondo Beach's One handed Readers,....
