Draw with points and turn your pictures into geometric array of colours.

This project is inspired by the Triangulation invented by the mathematician Boris Delaunay in 1934. While the process behind is complicated, the result reduce an image to its essentials, creating the illusions of triangles, prisms and pyramids.

Features :
· Take and load pictures.
· Draw, Erase, Undo.
· Different rendering styles : flat, wireframe, point, color blending.
· Save to your Photo Library.
· Portrait and Landscape mode.

    Amazing !
I've been exploring the delaunay effect using scriptographer for illustrator. (results: behance.net/gallery/-Poly-Masks/2401080 )
Back then I was wondering how cool it would be if there was an app who did this. Thank you so much for this - great work.

Is this also available for the Iphone ?

This is exactly what i was thinking when i started the first prototype some months ago ! Thank you ~

About iPhone version nothing yet, i'm still thinking about it. Surface is so small compared than an iPad, so i should implement a zoom/pinch system or something like that... Then yes, maybe ^^

Why didn't you first contact the author of the original work, when you were thinking of this?

Can this app work on PC ?
  • Jean-Christophe Naour 3 months ago
Yes it is, but that was not the purpose ^^... or at least not yet ~

This is a shameless uncredited monetization of Jonathan Puckey's Delaunay Raster tool: jonathanpuckey.com/projects/delaunay-raster/

Its seems that your guy is not the only one to do this -

@Conditional Design: no it isn't. The technique wasn't invented by Jonathan Puckey at all, it's an age-old technique invented by Boris Delaunay almost a century ago.

It's been used in demoscene productions on the Commodore 64 for over 20 years as well. Huffing and puffing about an iPad app that does the same shows a disturbing lack of sense of history. :)

If delaunay triangulation applications are indeed really old, applying it to image rasterisation with color averaging was really something applied first by Jonathan Puckey (and was covered by load of websites/blogs) .

Claiming your taking your inspiration from some elder mathematics application instead is lame .... Credit someone never cost anything

If i remember Jonathan Puckey started to use Delaunay and did a script for scriptographer in 2008 maybe ?
This one is a brand new App for iPad, this is totally different.

The Style is definitively coming from delaunay,
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delaunay_triangulation

But this is my point of view.

:D wau! very nice app and the font that u used! but nothing for iphone or mac?

    ps what is the font?
  • Jean-Christophe Naour 2 months ago
    Thank you ~
And yes nothing for mac, but maybe later for iPhone ... i'm working on some zooming features right now... so yes maybe ^^
And about the font, it is a custom type made only for Poly ~ so no release planned.

Here's a 3 year old free version made in Flash if you don't have an iPad or $1 ;) blog.inspirit.ru/?p=113
  • Indeed you can find already a bunch of applications or plugins for pc/mac. The purpose here was to build the same tool but with an experience adapted for mobile (iPad).
