None of the snow in this piece is simulated. I went out and show on the snowiest days of winter. The last scenes in the video were shot during a blizzard.
This was shot on a Canon Powershot SD630 Point & Shoot.
Additional footage was shot on a Sony EX1 by Jeff Thomas.
Posted using Final Cut, Photoshop, Motion and Color.

This was my first experiment with T/S and I am hooked.
I would really like to try some non-simulated T/S with a DSLR.
What were your camera settings on this and did you shoot to cards or tethered? I'm amazed you did it all post.
Very nice
Settings were: ISO 100, 1600 x 1200, Fine mode to a card.
Paying work is always good. This was fun to do.
I NEED to know how much pictures you put on all film PLEASE???
Approx 4500 individual images.
Nice Work!
The airport stuff was shot with the EX1. I wish it was with the point and shoot. It was WAY easier to work my magic with the P&S files.
What I really love about this video, besides the snow and the good photography, is that due to the S/T it almost looks like a toy world. At first I even thought that this was a model city or something with toy cars and planes.
I actually produced this for the band Codebreaker.
The song is fantastic!. You should check out the original version too.
I grew up in ND and know snow.
This vid is like watching train set models in action.
Thanks!

Approx. how long did the post-production take?
It took some time due to the majority of the image processing being done in Photoshop. Luckily, photoshop has the ability to batch effect groups of photos, so the computer worked longer than I did. I chipped away at it - processing the images from one snow day while waiting for the next one.
Awesome!
Yeah, I know someone in DT. I have shot many a rooftop scene from there.
Thanks
Evan
:) Mad Props.. and seriously i want more!
Thanks!
One other thing. I find T/S very inherently interesting to watch, even if there really is no complete story to tell. You'll note that I dish out some helpful writing techniques on some videos that seem to get lost and have no place really to go. But with Tilt Shift...I just get lost in the toy land feel. Just an interesting side note. - Cheers!
All footage is time lapse, both with the point and shoot and with the EX1. It is all shot at 1fps. I slowed the footage down in post. Photoshop was used for the effect.
"All post. All shot in continuous mode holding down the button. Altered and cropped in Motion, Processed in Photoshop and finished in Color."
I don't know what to say. You make the rest of the world just plain look bad.
Moving onto your thought to use a DSLR with a tilt shift
( perspective control) lens, is that just for resolution? Other than using a large format stills camera 4x5, 8x10 etc, with a seemingly infinite array of perspective and focus shape shifting, a DSLR lens just wont give you the altered focus planes you've utilised in the video. The same applies to complex motion with perspective control prime movie lenses. Evenso having achieved what you have in this video, I'd have to say 'go for it'!
Also for a note the work of Japanese photographer, Noaki Honjo, and Finnish photographer Miklos Gaal might give fuel to your thoughts.
Chapeau bas!
In a way, half the fun was using the Point and shoot camera for something that was going to be edited in 720P. I really liked the idea of shooting something with such a "lo-fi" camera that ultimately ended up in High Def. In a way giving the finger to all of the new, expensive DSLR cameras that can shoot HD. Right after this video was finished, I got a Canon DSLR and a Lens Baby (lo-fi tilt shift lens). And once it warms up here I plan on experimenting with that. I am done with the snow.
Thanks for the references. If you haven't seen his work, check out Keith Loutit on Vimeo. His work is what inspired me to make this video. He shoots with real T/S lenses.
