Featuring the last five governors from Carrington to Lygon before Federation, the work is a video composite collage of portraits set against video landscapes of garden surrounds of Government house and Sydney Harbour. Using motion and video filters, the backgrounds become more abstract evoking the rise of Impressionism and Abstraction in landscape painting of the mid to late 19th and early 20th century. Spoken quotes, gathered from historical archives and memoirs, were performed by John A Douglas and digitally remixed. Each portrait is embellished with a decorative motif from the Scottish Gothic Revival artist/designer/architect Augustus Pugin.
