One way to get a handle on Jaan Kaplinski is to read his poems and essays. This film, however, poetically explores what lies behind those written works. French filmmaker Raphaël Gianelli-Meriano interviews Kaplinski, to scrape away at the man himself. Is he a poet and Nobel Prize nominee, former government minister of re-independent Estonia, essayist, translator, taoïst or linguist? Ecologist? Father, son, husband, or lover? Or some heady mix of all these? Jaan Kaplinski is at a turning point in his life and career, in turns vulnerable and determined. He shares with us this very specific time in his life and invites us to feel his very pulse.
