MELBOURNE, 15 November 2011 - Gareth Evans ‘lifted the platform’ for Australia’s relationship with Indonesia, says former diplomat and senior public servant Philip Flood AO.

Flood explains that after good relations in the 1940s, the relationship ‘drifted’ in the subsequent 30 years.

‘Evans set out to arrest that drift and to put more substance and more ballast into the relationship,’ he says.

Flood made the comments in an interview prior to the Melbourne launch of his memoir, Dancing with Warriors.

Flood’s career highlights include Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador to Indonesia and Director-General of AusAID. He was also High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
