In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the International Year of Volunteersim (2001) UNV made a strategic investment in youth conceived, planned, and implemented mini projects in Uzbekistan. The fabled silk road city of Bukhara, meaning "lucky place", is full of architectural beauty and a rich history of different ethnicities living side by side. One small and insular minority group living in Bukhara is Lyuli, who are a subgroup of the Dom people living in Central Asia. The UNV funded mini-grant aimed to assist social inclusion of Lyuli through non-formal education by dedicated volunteers Kadirov Oybek, and Kamolov Ihtiyor. This is their story.
