This video was shot in a back yard on a $500 budget. (Check out the making of video to see the less glamorous side.) The song appears on Mr. Meeble's debut album "Never Trust the Chinese".

The facinating video was more interesting than the music. Getting the balance right, is really hard but you have real talent - keep at it!

Loved the ending ... when the efx are stripped away and we return to the simplicity of you on camera.

Would be interesting to shoot your "POV" of external events that caused "falling through again" so there is a juxtaposition of internal world (efx) and "reality."
  • mr. meeble plus 1 month ago
that's an interesting idea, greg. :)
  • Jay Johnson 1 month ago
This was a fantastic concept. Very creative.

And I think Greg is definitely onto something. As good as your footage is, I don’t think it’s quite strong enough to stand on it's own for the entire 7:11 of the song, you know what I mean? It definitely starts to get... uhhh... well, a little predictable. Fantastic… but predictable.

It seems to me that your video has some serious potential. But I think you need to add to your existing concept with something like what Greg suggested above. But be sure to do some good pre-production planning based on this great footage you already have. Then shoot whatever you come up with, and then inter-cut them together based on that next-level concept.

Speaking as an editor, I think there are some genuinely powerful moments in your original footage that you can easily manipulate the timing of, once you cut into them with editing. I think adding some “POV” shots will work really well. But if I was your editor, I would really want some footage of you singing the song, visibly working through the emotions of “falling through” and what that means to you.

    Good work!

    Very interesting and inventiveness stuff!

Critique? Well, technically, you may have done something nice in post with this video. Color enhancement, etc. - this would make it much better looking.

3:56 - wow the face expression looks like a devil

At the end I noticed you were trying to sing the lyrics, looks awesome. Would be amazing if you kept doing it right all the time!

I like the simplicity of the concept and the execution very much, especially the timing, with the music, of the big splurge at 03.56.

I disagree with those comments that suggest additional editing and post production. In my view, that would serve to make the piece more conventional and thus less striking.

As it is, this is nicely done!

You took the backwards video concept and totally ripped it into a new style. It looks like a moving piece of art on a human subject. It's really mesmerizing. The song is fantastic as well.
