Love it! A sort of burning man for Vimeo of sorts? I know what you mean about using your cameras vs. being present and enjoying the company of those around you. A wise friend of mine once said "You can miss out on a lot of great moments with those near to you in the present by trying to capture it for the future to be viewed by strangers." I'm definitely interested. I'll be in Asia until sometime in November but after that I'll have more free time than a sane man should have.

I work at a camp in Asheville, NC and we have tons of cabins/fields where we could hang out.We just rent it out when it's not the summer. it's near Asheville (and Charlotte, NC) but not IN any city. We could definitely hide out there! It would be a relatively cheap idea and rad! So come to Arden, NC vimeo!!

I was totally discussing this very idea with my friends and Vimeothopians Mike Fischer and Erick C. at a party a few weeks ago. Great idea!

Here's a thought... I think we should all take a pilgrimage to visit the vimeo user everyone knows and loves, the heart and soul of vimeo himself: Scruff E Guy. Everyone on the pilgrimage, films the entire voyage from beginning to end in any fun and awesome way they deem fit. At the end, we edit it into one long documentary.

speaking as someone who is about to travle to meet a group of on line posters in england. the idea is attractive, but the european side gots a lot of travelin to do.........

i like this a lot. we need to pick a place that's geographically neutral to everyone. a place where it would be easy for everyone across the country to reach. probably somewhere in the midwest. im on the east coast, but id be willing to fly somewhere. preferably drive, but whatevs.

i really want something like this to happen.

a camp out would be so awesome. I've been wanting to camp for the past two years and no one will go with me. I'm also a dork and like internet gatherings.

Good idea. Could be a lot of travelling for us Europeans, but we could always have our own one here. If we were really organised, we could have a live video link up between our one and the American meetup!

I'm thinking we'd have to do more than one, as travel arrangements could get difficult for some. Video linkage of more than one sounds good to me. Also the oil rig party sounds like it would rock.

I've just read through all these comments, and here are some of the vibes I'm getting:

-people like this idea, and will travel long distances

-let's just pick a date and a city and people will make it their BIZNASS to show up. seems like people are pointing towards December of this year.

-maybe 2 days, one without cameras, one with them

-not everyone will be able to attend, but we'll have other ways for anyone/everyone to get involved and be a part of it

-i'd like to add this possibility: we could make a schedule for the video cameras day, and set up "stations" for many of the great projects that have been started. almost like a vimeo video carnival festival thing, where different "booths" represent different vimeo video projects, and we'd come out of it with a crapload of exciting and well-organized footage.

there could be a glass-shouting booth, a cool jumps area, a sneaky fauxtographs squad running around, a kid vimeo zone, a goalproving booth, a lip-dubbing area with speakers and tons of ipods and wigs and stuff, etc. etc. etc.

This sounds like a great plan!! I like JChap's idea of stations and also the idea of a day without cameras.

I'm looking into renting an oil rig right now...

we should rent out a gymnasium for a few days or something. and have it be near a train that goes to a major city.
lots of space.
lots of room for fun.

If everyone could bring tents and such, I'm sure we could use my grandpa's farm... I'd have to explain who people WERE though... haha. He has acres and acres.

It's about 40 min. outside of Cincinnati... so we could all go down to the river and party it up on the Serpentine wall or some such nonsense.

I'm sure there is a way to get money for those who can't afford it. We just need a big list of who wants to go, and who needs financial help. Then we do our best to find the money for them, somehow. A group effort. I would love for the Europeans to make it, as well. Maybe that's a stretch, but there is so much money in the world. We just have to find it.

I know i am probably the most camera shy person here on vimeo. and mot people don't know me but i would love to go. I would even carpool with anyone who wants to go. I drive a bronco so there is plenty of room. If the event happens on the east coast that would be great for me. but with Jet blue being such a cheap airline i bet we could do it in any number of cities. What ever happens count me in.
