There is something to be said about finding serious people to facilitate a serious dialogue with the idea of addressing serious issues. Not all but certainly much of the dominant public discourse in this country is shrill when it needs to sensible. It is pandering and personal when it needs to be intelligent and non-inflammatory. It is divisive when it needs to be inclusive and it is pandering and unattractively partisan when it clearly needs to be just and fair-minded.
