Ball State Sports Link, the nation's first fully immersive sports media and production program, will produce a new weekly football show in partnership with Fox College Sports exclusively covering Ball State Football in 2011.
3rd Down Chirp, delivered by Papa John's, will provide viewers inside access to the Cardinals on and off the football field. The 12-week show will air online at ballstatesports.com, plus six episodes will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports.
Additional distribution for 3rd Down Chirp includes WIPB-TV in Muncie and statewide availability on Comcast Indiana 81 and the SL channel through Comcast on Demand.
"Sports Link does a great job and our communications school is fantastic," says BSU first-year head coach Pete Lembo. "It's one of the shining stars of this University. We are excited to connect fans to both programs with 3rd Down Chirp."
Ball State Sports Link senior Ben Wagner created the show and will serve as executive producer. Seniors Joel Bragg and Kyle Binder are the assistant producers. All 21 students in the immersive learning program will assist with weekly content production.
In cooperation with Ball State Athletics corporate sales, 3rd Down Chirp marks the first national sponsorship of a Ball State Sports Link production as Papa John's will be the show's exclusive sponsor.
3rd Down Chirp, delivered by Papa John's, will airs every Thursday at 3 p.m. online, followed by six shows on FCS, WIPB-TV and Comcast Indiana throughout the season.

About Ball State Sports Link:
During the semester, students will produce a broad range of media from live remote productions, live-to-tape events, television programs (WIPB-TV, Comcast Indiana, ESPN Networks, Fox Sports Net, Cardinal Vision 57), student-athlete features and webcasts. Other facets of the immersion program include radio, newspapers, podcasts and the use of mobile technology and interactivity via the web.
To maintain a focus on cross-platform promotion, students repackage the feature stories they create for local use at Ball State and send them to local news stations and outlets in the hometown of the featured player-on any platform the station may require.
