In this tip tutorial for 3ds max we'll talk about a trick to add depth of field in compositing using Combustion, (but you can use any other software). We'll prepare a scene rendering it with two z-pass render elements in output to control out of focus area near or far the camera. Then in Combustion we'll use a Compound Blur effect to use the z-passes as blurring mask. This trick is really useful to speed up rendering and have the possibility to have DOF and to change it without the need to re-render the entire sequence.
