De Wet Lategan supplies wine to Woolworths. He is committed to preserving his estate's natural resources for generations to come. This is his story:
Award-winning winemaker De Wet Lategan feels a natural connection to the land, and understands that the health of the soil influences the growth of the grapes, and the quality of the wine produced on his farm, Bergsig.
Situated in the Slanghoek Valley, Bergsig is part of the WWF’s Biodiversity and Wine Initiative, which is dedicated to protecting the Cape Floral Kingdom’s abundant variety of indigenous plants while encouraging wine producers to farm sustainably.
With more land under conservation than under cultivation, Lategan’s commitment to caring for the environment and building a sustainable future for his children in this picturesque area of the Cape Winelands, is as obvious as his passion for producing fine wines.
Bergsig is also the first wine farm to be a part of Woolworths sustainable agricultural initiative called Farming for the Future.
