Intro...
For Barbara Ladd McNamara, Sunday, July 29, 2007, started out as a typical summer day at her home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Feeding the birds on her deck, running errands, watching a Twins baseball game. That evening, she sat down to have dinner with her husband, Dan, and their 17-year-old son, Danny. A few minutes later, she had what she describes as a “lightning bolt” in her head. She felt nauseated, stood up, took two steps and fell, her husband catching her before she hit the floor. Her son insisted on calling 911, and fortunately for Barb, Paramedics were driving through her neighborhood following another call and arrived on the scene less than two minutes after the call. Barb doesn’t remember much after that, though she’ll never forget the encouragement she received from one Paramedic in the ride to the hospital, as she felt her self slipping away. “You’re not going there tonight, you’re staying here. I’m right here, and you’re staying with me,” he told her.
