Welcome to an "EllisLab How-To". In this video, we'll look at how to rename the system directory. Let's go ahead and get started.
Please note that ExpressionEngine has already been installed with the default settings.
The first thing we need to do though, is find where our files are. Go ahead and open FTP and navigate to your files.
The first thing we need to do is rename our system folder to something more discrete. After you've done this, you need to open "index.php" and "admin.php" in the text editor of your choice. Here you will see a "system path" variable that you will need to change to the name of our new folder. Go ahead and do this for both "index.php" and "admin.php".
Now, if we go back to our control panel, and go to our site "/admin.php". If the page loads, that means everything happened correctly.
Go ahead and accept any changes that show our core files have been altered.
And you have successfully renamed your system directory.
Notice that if you go to your site "/system" you'll get a 404 error. Likewise, if you go to our new system folder name, the control panel loads.
