This film documents the beginning of the creative project - 1000 Surfboard Graveyard. 1000SG aims to collect 1000 broken/old surfboards to make a graveyard to raise awareness about the carbon footprint/waste issues of surfboards.
Currently there is between 47 to 63 million surfboards in circulation world wide, the vast of which will go to landfill because surfboards cannot be recycled. This project aims to highlight landfill as societies graveyard for material objects like surfboards and in doing so aims to generate fresh conversations on whether we can better manage this waste.
PROJECT:
1. Collect 1000 old/broken surfboards
2. Document the process and any surfboard reuse ideas (see blog below)
3. Get all 1000 boards to Garie Beach
4. Construct an epic installation and film/photograph it
5. Provoke new ideas and conversations about surfboard sustainability
