Two weeks after the worst ice storm in its modern history, Western Kentucky is still recovering. Lexington Herald-Leader reporter Amy Wilson and David Stephenson took a one-day road trip to talk to people about how they are coping.

Shot with Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105 f/4, 300 f/2.8. Audio was recorded with the the Sennheiser MKE 400.

Really spectacular images. Did you grade this, or is this how it came out of the camera?

That was really nice. Loved the editing and the look, the little snippets of dialogue from the residents. The story itself was careful and curious and sad, but at the same time helped the viewer see that things were ok, despite the pain and loss.

    Well done.

    Liza,

I did grade it - forgot to mention that in the description. I really don't know what I'm doing exactly as this was my first attempt at it. I used Magic Bullet Looks and started with one of their presets. After looking at it now, I wonder if it went a bit too far.

  • Very nice story. but I did not like the "soft"-filter you have put on your amazing pictures. Probably magic bullettha t you mentioned. This is a real story, you do not "fuzz" them up with filters. Easy and simple is often the best. It removes the viewer from the gritty reality you are introducing to us. But keep up the good work!

Ronald, I think you're right the more I look at it. The preset I used from Magic Bullet added a kind of a 'glow' that I really don't like now. I don't mind the vignette and even the color - but the glow isn't good for this.

Great short subject. It really caught me off guard! (I was researching the mke 400) I really love the images from the Canon 5d - simply amazing. Wonderful music selection, writing, and subject matter. ****

Brilliantly done. I liked the map animation too. It helped link your journey and looked professional too.

Very well done. I really like your work. I think you helped launch the 5dmarkII with your video on the boxing piece.
