Southern-style wedding...sort of. My family is a traditional, straight-forward group of people, so I wanted to broaden their horizons by making this crazy little piece about my twin's wedding day in a deep southern town.

UPDATE: My twin (the groom) didn't like my video. He thought it was really weird and messed up for a wedding video, haha.

Music "Jai Ho" by A.R. Rahman from the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

Shot on my HV30.

Wonderful video Matthew! I haven't seen that movie yet but I love any music that has that "Bollywood" sound and it was perfect here!

Editing is perfect and I have to ask, were you in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for some of those shots??

The pace is spot on in my opinion.

    Bravo!
  • Matthew Brown plus 9 months ago
Hey thank you so much man. Yeah, we were in Gatlinburg. It was my first time in the deep south, so it was quite diiferent than what I'm used to. Thanks for the really nice comment!

Awesome choice of song. In some ways it didn't really match the footage...but that is what made it good and creative. Nicely done!

Thank you so much!! I was kind of worried about the editing because I was rushed, but I'm so glad it turned out and some people enjoyed it!!! Thank you again! By the way, I love your moonwalk. hehe

Whoa. That was a wedding video? AWESOME!
  • Matthew Brown plus 9 months ago
Haha! Yeah, it's pretty strange. My family is kind of straight-forward and traditional, so I think it'll kind of blow their minds (possibly in a bad way, haha) when they see it. Thanks for the comment!!

I loved it. Lots of great camera angles and the people looked like they were having a good day. When the airplane scene came up I immediatly thought of the scene in Slumdog where the boys were doing thier business in the open sided toilets!!!! great film. Thanks.

Matthew frightenly f#*king amazing man! Dan Huston was kind enough to share this piece with me and I'm just floored. Excellent seeing and excellent editing! Add'l note I too am from the south (Arkansas) though live in NY these days but pieces like this make me really really miss it. Love the interplay between things like the snowlift and the wedding prep. Great great piece...

Thank you so so much man! I thought the Smoky Mountains were so beautiful. I don't know if I want to go back to Gatlinburg for a while, though. again, thank you so much for the comment! I appreciate it a lot!

This is the ONLY way that Gatlinburg can be recorded and edited. Its like a southern fun house that would have had Hunter Thompson reaching for the ether while an animatronic plastic pink gorilla jumped for his gun. That place is pretty nuts...been there many times. nice job.

    Matthew, your best film yet!
Your talent in cinematography, for which you have a lot is surpassed by your talent as an editor(I see you say it was rushed?).
It's a very unique style that you are developing and it's a joy to follow what you are doing.
What did the family think? I'd say the expressions were gas.
    All the best
  • Matthew Brown plus 9 months ago
Haha, it blew my family's mind. They think I'm a freak now, haha. I think it's great that it's kind of broadening their horizons by putting the Indian music and pinball machine elements into the mix. Thank you so much for the great comment! It's a big push of encouragement to hear things like this!!

Deep southern town? Haha I guess. I have been in Knoxville for 10 years (transplant from Miami) and go to Gatlinburg nealry every weekend. Deep southern town just sounds funny but I guess makes sense if you're from the "Big City". Great video Matthew.
  • Matthew Brown plus 9 months ago
Hey thanks man. Haha, yeah to me this is definitely the deep south. I know it's not like the back roads of Mississippi or anything, but it definitely feels like a completely different country to me. Plus, Gatlinburg is probably one of the strangest places I've ever been to, so I guess that added to the feeling. Thanks again for the comment man!

  • Great thumbnail of the gorilla mouth! Also, I loved the sequence of airplane shots at the end - beautiful lighting and colors - did you do any color correction on it?

The funny little jewel of the Smokies. Wow, this really is amazing, taking two very unique ideas and editing them into one very cool story. East meets West with one of the best adaptations from one of my favorite films. What a great visual story...AWESOME Editing!

    Great job!

Hi! They've said it many times already but I'll add my voice: your editing is really very good, I love the brightness and pacing, while the choice of music is perfect and lends some punch to the quirky collage of images. It's a party in a little video package...hopefully with time they'll also see it that way.

Matthew, that was the best wedding video ever! Most wedding videos suck and usually are only viewed by the couple. You may have a new business here.

I'm from the south and can't stand Gatlinburg. I hope you'll come back and see a more representative example of the south some day.
  • Matthew Brown plus 7 months ago
Haha, I was not a fan of Gatlinburg either. I would love to return to the south someday to capture what it really is. Thank you so much for the awesome compliment! I just may do some crazy wedding videos sometime.

You have a nice quality in this vid and though your twin doesn't like pertaining to his wedding so much.. You made it interesting for anyone of us to want to watch it. It seems like it was nuch of what you saw and did to and fro to the wedding eh? I have a twin.. I know what you were up against though! hehee! We're 5 minutes apart and identical.. And you? ;)
