This is a quick video showcasing the wave propagation and echo generation in a plane-strain steel plate with a small hole in the middle. This is a finite-element model I developed, using standard steel properties and a 1MHz sine actuating wave of 1 period long.
In this example, the load is applied at a single point (to the left of the hole), and the resulting echo pattern can be seen. In order to form an ultrasonic image, a series of these pulses are input along the top line in the model, and the amplitude of the deformations as a function of time are used to plot the brightness of pixels in the resultant image.
