This video is a trailer for The Miners’ Hymns, a homage in film and music to the coal mining history of North East England.
Collaged from footage excavated from the BFI National Archives and local archives by artist/filmmaker Bill Morrison, the film is a powerful and poignant evocation of a recent past that is widely forgotten. The work was made with acclaimed Icelandic musician and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, his haunting score performed live for the work's premier at Durham Cathedral, July 2010.
Forma is delighted to announce that The Miners' Hymns will be screened across a range of venues in the coming months, including the Göteborg International Film Festival between January 27 - February 6, 2012.
