Dave (Jock) Lindsay and Bradley Iseppi were both involved with DADAA's Bridging the Gap project which set out to honour the contribution of the railways to the City of Bunbury. Jock is a retired railway man who lobbied for the creation of the sculpture. Bradley played a prominent role in the design of the sculpture by inspiring the lead artists with his sweeping charcoal drawings which resembled intersecting railway tracks. Their hands were cast in plaster, and occupy a prominent position in the sculpture's piston. Bradley and Jock developed a friendship over the course of the project, and remain in touch to this day.
