  • Chris O'Shea plus 2 months ago
Yep, great work. I'd definitely want one, providing they are *affordable* enough. Could the face have different expressions? Perhaps related to the weather each morning (sun glasses, sad face rain, rosy cheeks cold), and asleep in the nighttime?
  • Kieran Mullen 2 months ago
Should be cheap. It seems to be a thermal printer.

Sorry Outdated! encourages to waste paper. While everybody else seems to try to avoid the usage of paper-creating new technologies and Products, like the WWf/PDF, you you come up with this?
  • Tim Bullock 2 months ago
Theres nothing wrong with a bit of fun. There will always be a want and need for paper.
  • SylwesterG 2 months ago
Actually, there is a lot wrong with useless "need for paper" only for fun.
  • Charles De Meyer plus 2 months ago
In an increasingly digital world, we've never used more paper. waste.

Pointless and terribly wasteful. I'm sure it will sell millions and I'll have to buy one for my girlfriend.
  •
  • Jon Lefave 2 months ago
I think this is a cool concept, especially for to-do lists.

It'll have a niche market for sure, but for people with smartphones, this may be a little redundant.

Plus that demo of Foursquare check-ins... what's the point? Why do I care about where people I'm following were yesterday?
  •
  • Jeremy Chichester 2 months ago
What a cute new way to clutter my desk with crap.
  •
  • eric socolofsky 2 months ago
if it could print on post-its, so i could physically spam my coworkers, it would be even more awesome.
  •
  • Nick Davis 2 months ago
Can it be a girl? we could message back and forth, and she could give me sweet notes, I would know just what buttons to push to get her going. But then again, she would get jealous of me using another printer for google maps, even if I tell her it's just part of my job. She would be constantly nagging me with to do lists and begging me to buy her new ink. I would get tired of cleaning up after her all the time. *sigh* I guess it all comes down to either looks or practicality. aw what the heck, looks win every time, I want one!!!
  •
  • yoshi 2 months ago
While the idea is cute, I don't like the waste of paper for something so meaningless as twitter posts or whatever photo someone posted. That could as easily be displayed on an LCD controlled by an Arduino or connected to the computer's USB. *frowns at waste of paper*

The fact that people still use paper for things that can be digitized is proof of how wasteful most of us are. This isn't a thing that must be on paper.
  • Jon Lefave 2 months ago
Paper is renewable. Not a big deal.
  • yoshi 2 months ago
It's not renewing as fast as we are using it. This kind of thinking is what drives the usage speed higher than the renewal rate.
  • Jon Lefave 2 months ago
In the US alone, paper has nearly 70% recovery rate for recycling.

I'm all for paperless, but this specific application is nothing compared to the waste of, say, transaction receipts, or even junk mail for that matter.

I agree, it's still pretty wasteful!
  • 99aqgp 2 months ago
Wasn't electronic paper invented like 10 years ago? What happened to that? How about a sheet of electronic paper that you can tear bits off of (to save) and update other bits (to get the twitter updates or whatever the hell this device is for) - and then reattach the torn off bits to the main sheet when you don't need to save them longer. That would be cool, and actually look more futuristic than the tech in Look Around You.
  • THExDUKE 2 months ago
Imagine where we could spent the energie which is now put in recycling paper. We could do lot more. Not sure where Im personally be willing to sacrifice paper (tissues or toiletpaper for instance) but THIS device is just pointless in using paper. Everything on here is already on electronic devices. Why go back again ??
  • Steve Pomeroy 2 months ago
@99aqgp electronic paper is used in our Kindles and Nooks. While the technology can be used without an active substrate (you could print on a piece of specially-coated paper and re-print on the same paper) it seems as though the use as a screen won. Personally, I love the fidelity and contrast of my Nook screen.
  • Corellian Engineering plus 2 months ago
@THExDUKE ... if it printed onto toilet paper would you change your mind? lol

Agreed on the resources aspect ... I hope this is just an art project (cool) and not a serious commercial venture (waste).

Interesting idea and a cute design, but it seems like a step in the wrong direction. Printing FourSquare checkins is not what I would call a good use of resources.

Very cool device. Even though it's already the very last day of Movember, I think this printer really needs a moustache-mod.

so now were at a point where we can plug a device that wastes paper into our devices that previously enabled us not to waste paper? brilliant. absolutely brilliant. and by "brilliant" i mean "stupid waste of time and resources."

This got a lot of flack for wasting paper, but I think it could be really useful, and save some paper for those who would regularly get a whole newspaper or whatever publication. Think about it for a sec, how much of the entire paper do you actually read? I like certain sections and don't need a whole paper. It would also be great for things that you want to print but don't want to waste ink and paper, not to mention printer energy, on if it's only a small bit of info.

Cute concept, and I love the idea. I can't wait to see it come out!

  •
  • David Bradbury 2 months ago
Yeah, wasting paper is bad! It's not like paper grows on trees!

... Oh wait. Love the concept, and I find the idea of being able to print out notes and interesting bits of information great without having to print out a full sheet of paper. I'll be keeping an eye on this!

I really want one of these, its gorgeous.
  •
  • Vincent Wagner 2 months ago
Wasteful? It may be, but if it do it adorably...... You know that, your elders will like it. Even to me, who actually don't have enthusiasm to slideslideslideslide on my iDevices with finger. (Or you are a 'Sliding-mania'? Then you can ignore me.)

By printing important messages with this object, I can read these message handily and gracefully. Especially the to-do list -- make it be printed out every day, then you can no longer forget it. Everybody may need it, trust me.

I think the waste depends on how you use it. To me it looks like these would be perfect bookmarks with daily crosswords and news.

But I could also set one up for my grandparents and they wouldn't even need to check in on a smartphone. I could handle it for them and they'd get their updates every morning in a nice little digest.

I think it's a neat product (and I normally hate printers).
