Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sorry for loss. Where were you?
  • Kurtis Hough plus 2 months ago
    Cannon Beach, Oregon (Pacific Coast)
  • Aaron Eveland plus 2 months ago
Sorry for the vague question. I actually meant, where were you while this was being filmed?
  • Cristiano Giardina plus 2 months ago
Well, then, it was meant to be.. your camera wanted to die in the place where it felt more at home. Canon camera, Cannon Beach.. (cameras aren't that good at spelling to be honest)

Nearly 300k views in 2 hours, and a mention of B&H replacing the camera for free off their own back. All very fishy to me. Seems like nothing more than a marketing viral.
  • Kurtis Hough plus 2 months ago
Not the case Andrew, but I'm sure this viral success helped rally to my situation. I'm just happy to be getting a working camera again.
  • Kevin Bressler plus 2 months ago
But usually when a canon camera get's switched off or runs out of battery it doesn't save the clip. Did you stop the recording first?
  • wonderahul 2 months ago
@Kevin - No it does not happen like that. Clip is saved. at least for my T2i
  • Kevin Bressler plus 2 months ago
that's nice. Unfortunately the 7D doesn't because I accidentally I didn't stop recording during an interview and just switched off. The clip was gone..
  • Redcap Productions 2 months ago
    Same thing with the 600D!
  • mark wyatt plus 2 months ago

I had a buddy use an umbrella to shield his camera from the rain...then the wind came along and took it for a ride. So frustrating!

  • Jesse Shotland plus 2 months ago
What kind of camera was it?
  • Kurtis Hough plus 2 months ago
    Canon 5D Mark II
  • Jesse Shotland plus 2 months ago
Oh no! I'd die if that happened to me.
  • Alex Amerri 2 months ago
No you wouldn't. You'd be distraught, but you'd eventually pull yourself together, move on and do something about it, Jesse.
  • Jesse Shotland plus 2 months ago
Relax, I was being satirically over dramatic.
  • liz duck-chong 2 months ago
I read Alex's comment with their smiley face picture in mind. It was a weird experience.

Wow man. Good shot! My heartfelt sympathies to yr. camera and to his (or her?) family. They will be missed (by the IRS). I wonder how much the coastline cost? In my home state of LA we're losing our land one wave at a time! It's just absurd... Thanks for sharing the video!

That's EXACTLY what insurance is for!! I own a $25,000 camera and wouldn't dream not having insurance....though in this instance, don't broadcast the fact that you left it on a beach...simply (accidently) drop it off a pier.
Sucks man; I feel your pain.

Same thing nearly happened to me on the WA coast while shooting time lapse. As I was walking away I saw this freak wave out of the corner of my eye. It was thigh-deep instead of ankle deep like the rest. Got to the tripod just in time. Mother nature can be a fickle mistress.

I was there a few months back. The tide can come out of no where. My wife wanted to get in the water but I didn't . While shooting a few pictures, the tide suddenly raced toward me and soaked my pants.

    Ah, Oregon.

  • High surf that day at cannon beach

  • Ben Bunch plus 2 months ago
    Put it in rice!!!
  • Nick Botto 2 months ago
It's saltwater, which is unfortunately highly corrosive due to the high ion content, and at the very least it would dry out with highly conductive salts crystallizing all over the electronics. Not to mention if anything got on the sensor you're totally boned, even if it was pure fresh water.

But other than that, rice works quite excellently for most water/electronic incidences as long as nothing shorted and fried when the water hit. I've had good luck with phones and flash memory (and the memory was even after a full wash cycle).

  • planetMitch plus 2 months ago
have you tried drying it out? Put the camera in a bag of uncooked rice for 3-4 days... check this post on my blog where 2 5D2s went swimming and were dried

    blog.planet5d.com/2009/06/two-canon-eos-5d-mark-iis-go-for-a-swim-and-survive/
  • +1 to that.
  • Patrick McLoad pro 2 months ago
I don't think that works for salt water. Probably too late, but should have completely soaked it in fresh water first then taken it apart as far as possible; immerse it again, and then put into rice for a dry out. (The Cousteau's did it all the time!) Odds are good that it will never work properly again. Should probably just spray paint it all white and call it art.
