Campus Recreation at Pepperdine is committed to providing high quality, recreational activities for individuals and groups to enhance personal fitness, wellness and enjoyment.

One of the things we would do with the $10,000 is start a Polartec Outdoor Recreation Series. As part of this Polartec Series we would offer free outdoor trips throughout each semester so that ALL students have the opportunity to take advantage of outdoor recreation and our beautiful setting here in Malibu, CA. This will eliminate any of the hindrances that keep students from getting out and exploring. Also they will gain exposure to our program, and knowledge of all of the opportunities that exist, while enhancing personal fitness and over all well-being.

Also, another aspect of the Polartec Series would be to offer educational programs to promote environmental stewardship. Through programs such as wilderness first aid, emergency preparedness, trip leadership, bike maintenance, campfire cooking, or native plant exploration, students would gain valuable outdoor skills that they can take with them when they graduate. With this knowledge they can relay information to all who they come in contact with, spreading this passion and thirst for environmental exploration and sustainability.

The Polartec Series would allow us to cultivate and educate students to become more active, confident, and ready to lead in the outdoors. This would take our Campus Recreation program to the next level, ensuring long-term success and growth of our Outdoor Recreation program.

Another thing we would do with the $10,000 is offer a service-oriented outdoor trip each spring in conjunction with Project Serve.

Project Serve at Pepperdine University is a spring break trip where teams of students travel around the world, internationally and domestically, with a unified goal of service. They gain a better understanding of the needs of the world, while also being challenged to get out of their comfort zone.

We would love to incorporate a Campus Recreation component into project serve. It would be our goal to take a group of students on a trip over spring break where we can be immersed in the outdoors, but also positively impact the lives of others as we seek to fulfill the University’s mission of “strengthening students for lives of purpose, service, and leadership." Through this service we would be sharing our passion for the outdoors, while learning and growing as a community, but also as individuals, ready to lead others on exciting journeys.
