Facing Unfamiliar or Toofamiliar: subway represents various flanerie activities taking place in the public space such as subway and its station. This film is about 10 minutes long, and I tried to capture people’s daily lives and the moments that people’s detachment on the subway seats (they do not sit one by one) by observing them through the hidden camera and reflections. People have to allow their private space in the public space in order to accommodate more people in the space. However, people reveal their private behaviors at large degree when they are not aware of being looked by others. This is also because the people are too familiar with subway space. Viewing these on the screen with consciousness, as a result, becomes unfamiliar to audiences.
