Here it is! The eagerly anticipated 4th annual Foster Family Christmas Video. Four years ago, we began sending these in lieu of traditional Christmas cards and it has become one of our favorite traditions. We hope you enjoy!

Yaay! I was really looking forward to see your video. Looks great! It's amazing to see how kids have grown up in one year only.

Awsome video, Jared. Terrific Bokeh. What lens did you use to get such a shallow dof and to create such perfect bokeh?
    Thanks!
  • Jared Foster plus 2 months ago
Majority of the shoot is done with the cheap canon 50mm 1.8 lens and other wide shots are inexpensive Canon 17-85mm 3.5-5.6 lens.

Jared, you've become the master of the family video Christmas card. Absolutely fantastic. Great camera angles and bokeh. Is anyone helping behind the camera or do you just let it run?
  • Jared Foster plus 2 months ago
Thanks for your comments and hopefully at the end of the day we had fun and it makes other people smile. To answer some of your questions the camera is always on a tripod and the only help is everyone you see in the video. When its just me singing my wife or one of the kids run the camera. when were all in frame we just hit record and run into frame. When its just the kids on camera my wife and I are yelling like fools getting the kids to laugh, smile, react, and then we just let things happen and you always get the unexpected. Because we shoot these in our home we try to get the kids at their best when they are in the best mood. If they are not into it we just stop and take a break. We want them to have fun and not force them to perform if they are not into it.

Wow! Courtney and Natasia singing together. The three boys are growing up nicely and Jared your voice is beautiful. How you do all the magic, I don't know but it is wonderful to watch all four of your Christmas videos!

Awesome once again. This was definitely your first PG-13 Christmas card (view 1:01 and 1:36). Your kids will not be able to say they never saw their mommy and daddy kiss, in fact, they will know everybody in the world has seen their mommy and daddy kiss. ;)

Bokeh anyone? Some people know when something is cool and other people like David and Jon know why it is cool and it has something to do with bokeh. If you are like me and have no idea what boheh is then take a look at the definition from Wikipedia:

In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light." Differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause some lens designs to blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce blurring that is unpleasant or distracting—"good" and "bad" bokeh, respectively. Bokeh occurs for parts of the scene that lie outside the depth of field. Photographers sometimes deliberately use a shallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions.

They just keep getting better and better. Very creative and beautifully shot and edited. I'd love to do one of these for our family. I tried a test shot of a lip dub this weekend and realized how hard it is to create something like this! Much respect! Best holiday wishes to you and your family.

Beautiful as always. Your 2010 Christmas video inspired me to make my first Christmas video this year: vimeo.com/brucebrouwer/christmas2011

I promise, it was a complete coincidence that we both chose the same song. I had it picked out and wrote the script before I ever saw yours. It is a nice and fun song.
  • Jared Foster plus 2 months ago
Thanks for sharing Bruce and it was a great video. There are only so many Christmas songs that it is inevitable that we are all going to do the same songs by the time were all old.
