This is a video test for The Oracle. The footage shows a box and table illusion housing the ethereal floating head of Iris Lee. It was created using a technique called Pepper’s Ghost, developed in the 1860s, which uses a piece of glass to reflect a hidden object. We projected an image of actress Kourtney Rutherford, shot with an infrared camera, into the box from a projector built into the table. Five-minutes were presented as part of Catch Series at Abron’s Arts Center in June of 2011. In the performance the video was controlled with Isadora (media manipulation) software. Spectators were invited to ask the head questions from a microphone in the audience and the ghostly head responded in real time. The text presented in the video was included in the performance. It includes quotes from Lord Byron and Ted Kaczynski (The Unabomber).
