The American Council on Germany October 6 presented a one-day conference at the UW-Madison Fluno Center on "Reinventing the Industrial Heartland: Supply-Chain Sustainability and the New Automotive Industry." This segment presents Peter Schneider, an author and commentator, who describes his assessment of why the Daimler Chrysler merger did not succeed, and his views on the differences between German and American social culture. This conference was sponsored by the La Follette School of Public Policy at the UW-Madison, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the UW-Madison Center for German and European Studies, and the European Centers for Excellence at the UW-Madison.
