(yay!!)

This is my first fully animated short film, finished in september of 2008. took me 4 months. 2d animation was done in photoshop cs3 extended, backgrounds and 3d animation in 3dsmax 8, compositing in photoshop and after effects.

The story revolves around an old vietnam veteran, who suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder, and finally has to face his memories which haunt him in the form of surreal mutations. but it's also about "agent orange", the defoliant used by the united states army, which accidently contained dioxin, which causes disfigured children even today, alomost 40 years after the war. the company that produced the dioxin-contaminated ingredients is still active today and famous for producing the world's best-selling herbicide, being one of the leaders in genetic engineering of food plants and for extremely ruthless behaviour.

won the first prize in the "mediencampus bayern e.V." competition 2008, munich, germany.

screened at emergeandsee festival 2009, berlin, germany.

screened at ARS ELECTRONICA 2009, linz, austria.

This is really a wonderful piece! The fact that you animated this in Photoshop is really impressive!
  • Photoshop cs3 (extended!!) has this new feature, VIDEo LAYERS. all you have to do then is assign the "frame forward" and the "frame backward", and the "onion skin on/off toggle" to the buttons on your wacom tablet, and you're ready... btw cs3 had some bugs with video layers, but they were fixed in cs4.

    Excellent film, very well done.
Great job with the 3d backgrounds. They blended so well with the character animation that I didn't even think it was 3d until I read your notes.

I felt the sound design could use some work, It didn't feel up to par with the animation, which is pretty outstanding. I like how the sound is subtle, that part works really well, but it lacks a certain sharpness.

Great animation though, loved the story and how it plays out.

  • after watching some of your stuff, i see what you mean by "a certain sharpness".
thank you for the criticism, the internet is really lacking that.

Hi Christian, a group of animators and I recently started a portal dedicated to character animation. I love what I've seen of your work and it would be great if you joined us to show/promote your work.

Animators are our main audience and I'm sure many would like to learn from and be inspired by your work.

I am a big fan, and I have only just watched two of your films. Great stuff!

Really, this is fantastic and inspiring to watch.

If I am completely honest, I enjoy them much more without your explanation of what they really mean. There is so much in there for the mind to explore, so much meaning can be projected/interpreted and your explanation is too revealing.

There is nothing wrong with the idea's behind the film mind you. It is just that the films are so strong on their own, and so thought provoking, hearing the idea's explained with clarity seems to spoil the magic a bit.

I really am inspired man, humbled even. Great work!
