That horrid woman at the end came up and was like "NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED." WHY HAVE A PRESS EVENT AND NOT ALLOW THE PRESS TO COVER IT???

See my full coverage of the party here:

    "This is not cool."

You're right, lady. Google is not cool.
  • Rob Mientjes 2 years ago
Word. What's wrong with people? I could throw in my "photographic memory is just as evil as photography, so why allow people in at all?" diatribe, but I'd be preaching to the choir.

"cool" she said "this is not cool"?
why not, "this is not allowed" or "permissible"

was she trying to sound hip?
  • Shawn Laplante 2 years ago
She's trying to sound hip because she works a Goggle man. Come on....

Maybe she over heard you, that's why she was saying it's not cool?

If you were saying how great the google party was, she may have left you alone?
  • Julia Allison plus 2 years ago
Nope. She was vicious to everyone. RANDOMLY and INEXPLICABLY vicious. I hate google now.

I like how you're doing a news report, and embracing the web (ie, not emulating a television news broadcast), even though you dip into character for a *moment* at 0:19 ... "nahhhht a good thing."

Back to you, Jules. Thanks, Jake. The standoff between blah blah blah....
  • Rob Mientjes 2 years ago
Exactly the feel it has, yeah. I like "fake" news bulletins. (See this Waverly clip of the week for a great example: waverlyflams.com/dinner.html)

I'm not usually a harsh judge of other people's clothes and hair, but I must say...that woman looks like a SCHOOL MARM! I just absolutely was not expecting that when you panned over to her. I mean, Google! I thought they were cutting edge. I wonder if they have any idea how many mistakes they made with this *event*.

I'm assuming this is the NY office? Some of the Google people are actually great to work with....promise! The no photography and "sports sippers" are pretty lame though.

Aww, this sucks, I wanted to imagine google as cool in every way. WHO CAN I RELY ON NOW TO BE COOL. IAC I guess.

My dreams of a hip Google are crushed. =[ Now where am I going to apply my geeky talents without being stuck in The Office?

Jake, How did you guys integrate smello-vision into vimeo so soon? At the very end of this clip (0:36), I smelled grouchy old people.

That's not a Google employee......that's my Aunt Marge....Aunt Marge is always walking into events and doing things like that. Last week she walked onstage during a Rolling Stones concert and told Mick Jagger he was not cool at all... then she shook a pencil at the audience and left...

LOL! Sounds like a great series of comedy skits that one :)

huh? you seem sort of angry. I suggest:

    - petting a dog
    - hugging your mom
    - punching a pillow!

Observe the anonymity keeping "dora" safe here.

A face-to-face confrontation is out of the question; you wouldn't dare.

I repeat: You would not dare attack Julia (and therefore me) in a non-anonymous environment such as reality.
  • Rob Mientjes 2 years ago
What is this, YouTube? Anonymity is boring.

Its good to see insults on this site are at least dealt long form.

Though you guys probably know otherwise, could Dora actually be Marge Google's bitter (though delightfully pithy and erudite) lesbian daughter? Hence the ironic reference to the Nemo namesake... or does she intend the precocious child explorer?

How on earth did such a high-horsed one happen upon this lowbrow medium?! Why is she so threatened by Julia and her innocuous tidbits? If I were an astute cultural observer, as Dora considers herself, I might detect some deep-seated self-loathing.

But besides that, I'm surprised Dora could not recognise Aunt Google's obvious disconnect with the ambitions of this "forum". Just another case of a big brand growing old and tired -- which begs me to coin the term "Brandma": a tired old brand that buys creative young upstarts to stay relevant.

That is hideous. I just came here from the blog post. Makes me wanna read more by Julia. But that Google thing... sheeesh!! With their Don't Do Evil slogan, maybe they think cameras are evil, you know, like the Taliban did? svaradarajan.blogspot.com/2001/03/inside-taliban-want-to-have-fun-enjoy.html
