Love the colour in this film, what did you use to shoot it?
  • Deidox plus 2 years ago
Thanks! we shot with a Nikon D90 actually, with some good lenses thrown on it. Then we had a color pass done by our friend jeremiahbelt.com.

    Hey,

great video ! You have any more specific info ont the lenses used ?
I just got a D90 and i am looking for the best lenses to use

    Thanks !
  • Deidox plus 2 years ago
Thanks! A few old (and very good glass) Nikon prime lenses from the 1980's are what we're getting out best images with, but there's no image stabilization on those lenses so you can't do anything handheld with them.

For handheld, we use a higher end Nikon lense than what comes stock with the D90. This helps big time with image stabilization.

I don't know specific lenses, but our DP John Harrison does, and I'm sure he'd be willing to share the info... twitter.com/blueskyhill

A fine achievement. However, if you took God out of the piece it would be so, so very much better. I'm not saying that just because I'm an atheist, rather it would explain her essential goodness much more effectively. But I understand that there's an agenda here which is unfortunate.

Beautifully shot and some delicious details too, particularly when she removes her shoes. A very private, poignant moment.
  • macjunki 2 years ago
I agree, but the power of religion is also a interesting matter. Not that I'm religious, I am a atheist, too. It is amazing to watch how important the faith is for this teacher. Maybe she wouldn't be able to do what she is doing without it.
But again, i agree, the most important part is the strength of the person.
  • Winston De Armas 1 year ago
I don't think there's an "agenda", but rather a perspective. Perspective is unavoidable in film, particularly in documentaries. I think the point is that, to best explain her "essential goodness" she HAS to point to God. Without that reference point, there's really no way for her to explain why she does what she does. To take God out of the piece would be dishonest. Why not, then, take the personal side completely out? The relationship between one and the other is what makes this heartfelt and honest.

It's a beautiful film, very well done, Lindsey is a great woman. Great pity that it's about Christianity. God would for sure never want that we identify ourselves with institutional religions.

I agree with Paul. It sounds like a commercial spot for a Church. Nice pictures but so riddled with an agenda that it's meaningless to me as a documentary. FAKE.
  • macjunki 2 years ago
Yeah, it's funny how i always feel that I am watching commercial for some kind of organization. It makes me uncomfortable.

Very well made documentary. Technically beautiful.

I think Lindsay is a wonderful human being with a contagious positive outlook on life. I think the children she teaches will ultimately be better equipped to face challenges as a result of her compassionate teaching style and honest openness about herself as an adult in her own life.

Its funny how some will judge this film based upon a pre conceived idea of a pitch.. and not based upon it's true meaning from the heart and message. To me it's like judging people from the outside without ever speaking to them... and or saying, I don't like that person just because they are different... By removing her message I think it becomes just another universal theme and is watered down in her inner beauty.... -to each their own.... - if a film from the same director did a drug deal clip that had gone bad and the director wanted to document the story from a point of control; then yes, the message is from the director and is scripted. Look at the film (Gran Torino - Clint Eastwood). Simple film and great message too... Lindsay has a direct and clear message on many levels. - Like "I don't play with Guns, but a straight shooter", and I believe in my job, God and in helping children be inspired.. ( I believe that it's no Church Pitch or Spot or institution driven ) - Lindsay is real with her passion as we are real with our own footage too. The film is clean and well done in its presentation, music and mix. The director should get many kudos for the way he/or she let the freedom of this documentary develop. Well done and I look forward in seeing more.

Ive got a question about sound: you probably recorded voice over on separate media, but how did you get good sound when she's actually talking in front of the cam? Is that D90 or separate audio recorder? I've got a D90 too and want to shoot a short drama, I'm worried about the sound and that's what delays me as I don't know if I should cut out most of the dialogues... cheers
  • Chronicle Project 2 years ago
Hey. Sorry for the late reply... we captured most of the sound onto a M-Audio microtrack II. Sometimes we also shot with a Panasonic HMC150 as our b camera and recorded audio onto that. There are probably 4-6 shots in the piece that came from the HMC. Hope that helps!

Do you have your Nikon D90 on a rig or is it mostly hand held?
  • Chronicle Project 2 years ago
For anything handheld we made a homemade rig using these on both sides of the camera... bhphotovideo.com/c/product/70990-REG/Kalt_NPLBRACK__L_Flash_Bracket.html

Also we used a tripod if we were using prime lenses to shoot with. They don't have stabilization so we had to use a tripod.

I'm puzzled by the 'message'. Is it really about passion? Or, is it drama ... ? Does the story hold, really, when there's no god? What is it where it is about?

Very nice! Can't wait to view the other Deidox films.
Can you tell me what your production schedule was like? It looks like the piece was shot in one day, correct? How long was post production?
