A quick and not so great shot of the cycle lane on the pavement arriving to Hammersmith Bridge from Barnes.
Theoretically, cyclists should take to the pavement at the "junction" with Glentham Road, ride pass the bus lane barrier (which was again knocked off this morning), then join the bus lane again just before it ends, and cycle across the really bad surfaced bridge.
As you can see in the video, there are many impracticalities to this, not helped at the moment by some building works on the pavement.
The barrier, when closed, cannot be passed normally by a bike, and you have to pretty much dismount upon arriving at it. But in more than a year of almost daily commute through the bridge, I've seen it closed only once! Any other times it was lying on the side of the road, or bent over it's mechanism on the pavement, knocked of.
