Derek Franz is one of the Grad students in the Digital Arts New Media mfa program at UCSC (danm.ucsc.edu). Derek has a very rugged esthetic that I like quite a bit. This video highlights a sound instillation piece he showcased on friday (2011-12-03) for the DANM Open Studios.
