Philip, you need to come to the US and do some filming (specifically Portland OR?) :P I would flip if I saw you shooting.

next time you're out with this setup, could you try to get a shot with a sharp bokeh… that's been my pet peeve of DoF adapters from the start, and i'd like to see how the relay reacts. I saw only saw a few examples here, but if like the sun was reflecting off of the water and you threw it completely out of focus how nice would it look. This setup seems like it'd be the perfect hi-end wedding videographer's delight.

very difficult to use these set ups on anything with actuality...great for set ups, interviews etc...
  • Brad C plus 10 months ago
Agreed. I put my Letus up for sale. Thanks for your help Phil.

    Great video once again.

Got a question though. What exactly is overcranking?
  • Philip Bloom plus 10 months ago
it's means in camera slow motion...from film cameras when the film is cranked through the camera faster than normal so when played back at normal speed is slow motion.
  • interfade 10 months ago
Oh okay, so undercranked would be faster than usual? Is this done with the actual camera or in post? Thanks for the info!

    Philip- Good Onion Mate!!!

Your eclectic and entertaining perspective and use of the "electronic"eye to establish a tangible feel for the pulse of the actions is always compelling... as the actions documented unfold... the certanty of your visual language consistantly brings me ( And other cinematographers) to the electronic hearth to gaze warmly upon your rewarded efforts- and admire your 3 minute journeys into voyaristic pantages !!

    Conversly...Always loved piccadilly too!
Can you share with us the picture profiles from this shoot-Lovely colour...or is that brilliant colour-lovely!-LOL
Thanks for the Smile provided with the Small Faces-
Always loved Mid 60's London Too!

    Godspeed and Good Shooting!

Thanks Dave. Most of it was done in post with Magic Bullet. Shot quite flat!

Hi there, just wondering if you have any tips on dealing with the public while you are shooting. I notice some of them noticing the camera, was this a problem? I really enjoy your work. Cheers lisa
  • Philip Bloom plus 10 months ago
unless they come up and ask me to stop then it's fine. Only got punched twice, not bad...
  • Lisa La Rosa 10 months ago
I hope that is twice in your career not twice every time you go out. Perhaps i should take a first aid kit.

I also watched Mark's film and i am astounded that while they are both beautiful they are both remarkably different. It is a real revelation to see just how powerful individual vision and style can be.

    Cheers.

this short was originally recorded in wich wide resolution? the letterbox is because vimeo can only display 1280x720?

i am looking for anamorphic widescreen using this EX3 and Letus setup, without distortion caused by lenses with great angular power.

thanks, and congratulations for your shoots!

I finally found the word for your shorts Phil; scopophilia. The pleasure derived from looking or staring. Not that we need to involve any psychoanalytic terms! Love it as always, and I STILL think that one day I will shoot with/help you out on a project!

Just wondering how you got such amazing colors blacks and sharp wides!!!? Great stuff! I have had 2 x.d cam 330s with fujinon 17 x 5 h.d lens for 6 mths now and they look flat and dull by comparison! Is your lens affecting colours and blacks or is it post? would love to get colours like this with my lens (my only lens). What does a d.o.f adapter like that with nikon lens set you back? Ive heard they can create fringing and other anomolies so have tended to use telephoto for d.o.f.

If you dont change lens... is ex3 worth the extra cost of ex1? I'm trying to decide what camera do go for. The difference in the price is quite a bit.
  • Philip Bloom plus 9 months ago
the ex1 is an awesome camera with same pic quality as ex3

Im just curious, is the only way to get shallow depth of field is to have an attached 35mm adapter or can one easily post process it? Thanks, and beautiful work by the way
  • Philip Bloom plus 9 months ago
post process shallow DOF is very hard and always looks fake.
  • Paul Shmelov 9 months ago
I really want a 35 but they are just too much. If I have a lens whats the cheapest possible way to get it to work?

I have to ask: Do you get payed to make videos like this? Or are you lugging around all the equipment through the tube just for sheer amusement?

    Either way, great job! Cheers!
