Great work Ben & Ian!! Some epic shots in there. You should look to submit this to festivals. I've looked at some of your other work and I've become a new fan. Say, do you use a slider or steady cam, and if so which ones? Cheers.
  • Sitka plus 2 months ago
I used a Kessler slider and a ProArm job crane on this project. Thanks for compliments on the film!
  • Peter Harvey plus 2 months ago
I agree with Brendan. Great film! Shot beautifully with a really wicked story. Love the surf/environmental aspect of it. You guys should totally submit it to festivals! I just saw the film "Kivalina V. Exxon" at the Whistler Film Festival while I was up there and think that "Tipping Barrels" would be a great film to precede it at other film festivals. You should try to connect with the director from that film.

what camera was that at 13:36?
  • Gage Hingeley plus 2 months ago
I was very curious too! probably like a super 8 but which one! I am looking into purchasing one but don tknow which one.
  • Sam Morrill staff 2 months ago
    It's a Canon 814 I believe. I actually own one ;) It's a workhorse of a super-8 camera.

I really like how they used it for the credits.

Well done Ben, you've done one hell of a thing here. You were able to capture both the beauty and soul of the GBR and did her a solid by sharing her plight with the masses. Thumbs up maestro.

    Beautiful film Ben & Ian!

I loved how you linked the storyline of 2 friends going on a captivating surfing trip with the bitter reality of the region.

I am from toronto and I agree that the Canadian Government is concerned more about tar sands and oil exports THAN about preserving the beautiful wildlife and ecosystem that exists along the shores of BC.

This is an interesting mix... The worlds of Surf and Environment have a different chronos (in the moment vs. past and future), but I love how they intersect here. You really captured a deep relationship between people and land. This is a great use of the video medium. Also, I want a super-8:).
