The National Museum of Hip-Hop and DMA Productions NYC, LLC are proud to present The Congressional Black Caucus Graffiti Exhibition. This unique private event took place in the heart of Times Square at Quad Recording Studios on December 1st, 2011. For this exhibition, the museum chose to combine a tribute to members of the Congressional Black Caucus with one of the four traditional hip-hop elements; graffiti. Renowned graffiti artists lent their talents to produce life-like portraits of select CBC members. NMoH collected over 20 portraits from artists around the world to display alongside live music, speeches from museum executives and the artists themselves.

The urban culture that lives in the free-flowing and fixed art of graffiti has been a beautiful struggle between the creator and his/her audience. NMoH intends to bridge the gap by showing graffiti for its unadulterated expressionism. From spray paint to canvas — itinerant or at rest — graffiti attracts anthropological curiosity. Its rebel codes ferment sociological inquiry, and its eye-burning virtuosity demand documentation and cataloging as art.
