One of the best short films I have seen - you should be very proud. And as artisans we should be doing what we can to support other artisans. I will do my best to use the two companies profiled for my future paper & letterpress needs.

What a lovely way to share stories. You made me care about these people -- and want to buy paper and have something printed just to show support! Thank you.

    Beautiful and bittersweet indeed.

As one artisan to many others, there's a valuable point within this film: The two shops are dependent on clients with money in order to stay in business and practice their art. Those clients would be among the hated "1%ers" - that is, anyone making more than $285K/year. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've never received a commission from, or signed a contract with anyone who made less money than I - a member of the so-called 99%.

I don't spit on the 1%, I welcome their business. And I don't think any of them owe me anything until after I've produced what they've commissioned me to do. It's called being a grown-up.

    well said... :)
  • Yea, seriously. Artists have always been financially dependent on society's elite. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

It's amazing to see the great courage that these guys have to stay in business and believe in their dreams. We as young artists must support them and don't let this ancient and beautiful techniques die.

beautiful! I work in a factory where cardboard boxes are completely handmade so as 100 years ago in Buenos Aires, Argentina and beyond all the technology I think we can keep alive the first production technique is a way of not letting die history or who have generated. I apologize for my english and thank those who made this short.

Lovely film. Made me want to contribute a few € to both shops - you should include this vid and suggest a PayPal donate button on their sites. Just a thought. Seems a few people have been moved by this film, and rightly so. Hats off to all concerned.

Or ... get them back in front of the camera to make a longer documentary, get them to share a fraction more of their knowledge, pop it on kickstarter and send me the link when u do :)

  • That was AWSUM! I wish I lived in L.A. to meet these people (and buy "awsum" paper like that) but sadly I can only send letters to them and look at their sites. Well, good job, I especially like how you introduced the video, made me feel like I was watching a trailer. :P

    I loved it. :)

I'm an artist, and if I lived in Los Angeles, I wouldn't shop anywhere to buy paper but there. How humbling. This was such a great reminder to keep doing what I love and what I'm passionate about, no matter the financial return.

Bless their souls and yours :). Keep creating!

My father worked in the printing industry for his entire life. He owned his own business for the last 20 years which he sold a few years back and retired. I sent this to him and my mom said he teared up while watching....I don't ever recall my dad crying.
