We filmed BLK DNM Perfume 11 molecules mixed with water - and in one scene, paint - and then threw it in front of a Phantom camera which captured the footage at 2000 frames per second. The inspiration was a re-imagining of a birth of a nebula in an alternate universe, and then how planets, rocks, land, water and clouds - an atmosphere - may form in an alternative gravitational field. In cinema4d, we then reworked the footage so it depicted two light sources, a 'moon' and a 'sun' which revolve these landmasses, casting different shadows and colours - which we then sped up so it appears like time-lapse footage. It was important for us to use the actual perfume within the liquid mix so as to imbue the video with a special energy and integrity as an artwork. At present, we are working on a special fashion edition for Spring 2011, POST Performance which explores and demonstrates the way in which technology can and has changed the way we 'perform' in our daily lives
