Watch Dr Vince Cable - Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills - talk about how important it is for the UK's future business and economic growth that employees have an international outlook, and international skills and experience.
British Council CEO Martin Davidson introduces two pieces of research: the Next Generation UK report commissioned by the British Council into undergraduates' views about the world, their aspirations and international experience; the other commissioned jointly by the British Council and Think Global into the importance businesses attach to employees' having an international outlook, skills and experience.
The conclusions drawn are that businesses value these very highly but young people do not seem to realise the benefits to their own employability that international skills, outlook and experience bestow.
These speeches were followed by a panel discussion with participation of business, university, NGO and student union leaders on how we can better raise awareness amongst young people of the importance of being able to communicate effectively with people from different cultures and the opportunities available for them to gain international experience.
