Here is one of my favorite plays of my career, let me explain why… It’s 3 and 8 ballgame is tied 17 to 17, 3 minutes left with Miami driving. Thinking to myself this could be my last play as a Cal Bear. So I pray, “Jesus I need you! One last play, I give you my body. Come play through it and make a play… In His name AMEN!”
I get down in my stance, “HIKE” I come roaring off the edge, strike my right arm out to get separation allowing me to push a 300 pound man back. Next thing I know I have the Quarterback wrapped in my arms ball is out rolling towards the end zone. After I get up I come to the realization of what had just occurred and felt a heavy rush of the Holy Spirit through out my body. I stopped and pointed to the sky in pure joy as I knew what my Heavenly Father just did for me. As you see in the video this isn’t your typical point to the sky. Afterward when I watched ESPN I saw in HD the camera zoomed in and you could read my lips “I love you Lord so much, I love you” as I shook my finger at Him letting Him know my disbelief and Joy.
The lesson to take for this is to PRAY! If I hadn’t prayed to God for the strength to make a play once that play was made (if it happened at all) it would have been very easy to stand there on that podium excepting the Defensive MVP award as if I alone had earned it. I gave God the opportunity to show his power, He did and so now I can stand here and glorify His name! so you wont know God is working in your life if you don’t give Him the opportunity to show you!
Lastly I think to myself of the ESPN sound guy. I was mic’d up for that game said that prayer out loud to myself seconds later that play occurs and he hears me expressing my heart to God in thanks. Freaking awesome if you ask me!!!
