America is a place so crammed with creativity that even the most diverse and unique personalities might feel as if they are commonplace. Shivani is a fascinating person, both extremely talented and extremely generous; both creative and humble; and on top of that a true American girl. Up here in frigid Canada we see America on TV and movies all the time, and think we are just seeing a Hollywoodized version. Not so. Shivani is a sorority girl and proud of it; she loves life and knows how to live.
Shivani created an event fully thought out and tailored to her and Samir's vision. The ceremony itself was choreographed well in advance, and at the rehearsal my mind boggled and I wondered how it would all come together. How? Perfectly. Strikingly. Movingly.
Samir has another sort of personality that fascinates me. The casual but incredibly bright person. How can he be so off hand and seemingly half asleep, yet so present and on top of things? From his quiet preparations to the impressive promenade to the ceremony, he morphed into a very large personality from an almost invisible one.
I could add much more but I'll skip to the ending: the moment when we played the SDE at the reception. Shivani turned and looked at me about one third through; I didn't know why so I waved. Then she turned to me again and I realized why. She wanted me to see that tears were rolling down her cheek. She has been a fan of our work for quite a while and had been looking forward so much to that moment, after the event had passed and she could look back through our cameras. I was touched too.
