Hello internet friends. It has been quite a while since we last spoke. Regardless of our time away, we still love live music. The Heard is back with our first episode in months. This episode features the Kanas City punk band, The Runaway Sons. These kids are insane. I got to sit down with Nick and Jimmy to discuss a few of the things that make them so… special.
You can learn a lot about a person in just one question: "Who would play you in a movie about your life?" Okay, so maybe you can't learn too terribly much from just that one question, but it yields interesting responses none the less. When I asked Nick and Jimmy this question, they both responded with musicians to play them in a movie. Jimmy would be played by Freddie Mercury and Nick would be played by Johnny Thunders. If that isn't a sign that these kids love playing music, I don't know what is.
Let's rewind about 2 years. One of my friends kept telling me about her friend's band that I just had to see play. She called me up one day and invited me to go see Jimmy's band play. Of course I was down. I asked where the show was and she responded… "in Gardner, KS… in a church." I was a bit taken back, Where I come from, punk rock shows aren't a usual church occurrence. However, I went to the show, and needless to say, I was completely blown away. The energy was enough to wake the dead, maybe not resurrect Jesus, but at least stir up some trouble. Since the first time I saw the Runaway Sons play, there have been some lineup changes, but the energy is still the same, if not more intense. These dudes are something to really look out for.
If you are looking for some serious holiday debauchery, you can catch the Runaway Sons at the Riot Room in Kansas City, this Saturday, December 17th. They will be playing alongside AM Taxi, The Architects and Cherokee Rock Rifle. It is sure to be a killer party.
Like a tiger, defying the laws of gravity,
-Nicholas
