Canon 5D Mark II Underwater Video in the Red Sea
10 months ago
I've edited together some clips I shot in the Egyptian Red Sea with the Canon 5D Mark II in an Ikelite housing which I converted (it was for the original 5D). Most of the shots are with a 15mm Fisheye lens, but there are a couple with a macro lens. Most of it is with natural light and a Magic Filter.

Excess baggage fees for the traveling videographer average about $500 these days, so on our Scubamagazine.net Underwater Photo, Video, Travel & Dive Discussion Community, I have a whole post with photos of how I can put about 50lbs of equipment on my person that goes right back into my carry-once they are done weighing it:

Anyway, it looks like DSLR's are getting closer to being able to compete with single CMOS chip HD videocams.
The filter goes behind the lens- in the filter holder, or if the lens doesn't have one you can usually find a way to tape them.
They did a review of the Aquatica here: backscatter.com/5d2/
What' your opinion of the ikelite housing for underwater video?
The footage looks fantastic btw.
The Ikelite is good value for money and gets the job done, and I've never had one leak, but if you have the money and it's going to see plenty of use I'd go for the Aquatica. Ergomics are a bit better, you can get a better viewfinder, and it will be that bit tougher. Plus you have a hydrophone. End of the day, you'll get very similar if not identical footage from either, but the Aquatica will be easier to use and last longer.
