In 1992 Faadumo lost both her legs to a landmine. Through the Global Enrichment Foundation's flagship initiative, the Somali Women's Scholarship Program (SWSP), Faadumo is in university with a extra stipend to help her access special medical services. She dreams of becoming a doctor, so she can help others affected by war."Being disabled, I want to be a great leader...education is power for Somali women", says Faadumo. This is the very essence of the SWSP- giving Somali women an opportunity to access education, hone their leadership skills and to rebuild their own communities and nation.
Education is a tool to create sustainable change in Somalia, a means for women to transform themselves and their communities. It paves the way for a generation of female leaders to hope, dream and take their rightful role in the development of their country.
