DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT: The Next Day is loosely based on my “dating” experience. Most young men, and not so young men, go through a period in life where their primary purpose when they go out is to meet a woman , engage her in conversation and if your skills are major, take her back to your place the same night so you can get to know her in the biblical sense. No one involved in this kind of union ever thinks about the consequences. You never think about what the other individual’s life experiences were. The Next Day shows you what happens when you leap before you look.
