“When Eve saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to Adam, who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.”
When we see the earth as a bucket that holds oil, or as a beautiful landscape that makes us happy, we are missing the point. The point is that creation is twice holy because God first created and declared it good, and because Jesus then walked on it. Being part of that creation, the creation that God loves and that Jesus inhabited, is a blessing and a gift. Why in a million years, why in a million lifetimes, would we ever want to separate ourselves from that creation? Why would we ever want to stand apart from it?
