A festive three-minute medley of winter holiday melodies is stretched out and slowed by a factor of 128x, then played by a group of dedicated percussionists parading down the entire length 13 mile length of Manhattan. Composer Chris Peck’s medley is transformed into a six-hour percussion marathon led by percussionist Doug Perkins, performed and recorded by the Dartmouth Contemporary Music Lab and friends and participants from around the US. As soon as the parade hits Battery Park, the recording is edited by Alex Wroten, sped up and posted as an online holiday gift. The hidden music is accompanied by an astounding time-lapse video of the performers walking the length of Manhattan in mere minutes, their drums caroling away with an excess of frenetic holiday spirit.
