Aron Ralston is the guy whose right arm became trapped by a dislodged boulder in a Blue John Canyon, a remote location outside Moab, Utah. After 2 days Aron realized that he would have to cut off his arm in order to survive. But he had blunted the blade on his knife scratching at the boulder, the cheap penknife wouldn't even cut through his skin, let alone the bone.
